Did You Hit 30 Already?
When a kollel yungerman reaches 30 years old, is when he needs to seriously work out a course of action for him to take.
When I was a chosson in Lakewood, Rabbi Yehuda Jacobs, the mashgiach of Lakewood Yeshiva (BMG) gave a session to all the chassanim in his home. Among the topics he discussed was how long one should stay in kollel. He related that he has seen almost everyone “becomes 30″ and must take appropriate action at that point. He has seen from experience that at a certain point, most people need to feel that they have some other purpose in life besides just sitting and learning in yeshiva.
He added, “Some people become 30 at the age of 33, while some reach it at 28.” The point is, that there is a point in time where these nagging feelings become overwhelming, and they must be properly addressed.
In my own experience, I began to have these feelings when I became 28. However, they were managable until I turned 30, which at that point I felt like I needed to take drastic action.
Did you hit “30″ already?
Everyone knows themself where they are holding. Are you 26, 28, 30, or 35? The feelings are there. Don’t ignore them. These signals are a sign from shamayim to make a change for the better. It is entirely within your ability to change your life. Don’t let the opportunities slip by.
