How a Plane Crashes
Most people are under the impression that a plane crash is caused by a dramatic & sudden event, such as an engine blowing out, or an overpowering wind pushing the aircraft out of control. But the truth is often very different than it is in the movies.
A plane crash is caused by a buildup of many minor malfunctions and errors, each of which taken on its own is no more than a minor inconvenience. For example, first the pilot has been flying for many hours and is fatigued, a signal on the instrument panel becomes out of service, there is stormy weather near the airport, the air traffic controllers are tense and overworked, etc. A catastrophic event such as a plane crash requires many of these small things to go wrong – at the same time – in order to happen.
The same can be said with regard to success. Success is almost never the result of one big win. Yes, we have all heard those wonderous stories how someone happened to be in the right place at the right time – but those are not representative of the reality. Success is a buildup of doing many many small things right. The first thing is decide what you want to be successful doing. After you decide what it is you want to be successful with, its only a matter of doing many small things right.
