Rosh Hashana: Parnossah From the Source

September 17, 2009 | Comments 0

Let me offer a collective suggestion to all of the readers of this blog, both those in kollel and those not.

This Rosh Hashana, when we accept Hashem’s Kingship upon ourselves, let’s make it real and meaningful. Think for a minute who supplies you with your income – immediately a person comes to mind. Either a boss (for those who are employed), a good customer (for those who are self-employed), the government (if you are on programs), or a parent/shver (if you are being supported).

But of course, all these people are just agents doing their job. They don’t have any real power over our incomes or lack thereof. The keys of parnossah are held exclusively in the hands of G-d. He is the only true Boss. And if people had a hard time understanding this concept, the financial lessons of the past 12 months taught us all a good lesson.

When we say Sh’ma we accept Hashem’s kingship over the whole world. Let us ensure we live up to our own declarations. The true boss is Him. Not the employer, not the gov’t, and not the shver. If we fully accept this, it becomes so much easier to make the right decisions in our lives.

May we all be zoche to a K’siva V’Chasima Tova.
